"Terrifying Prospect" | Running Out Of Prison Spaces | Starmer To Build More
Former police officer Peter Bleksley joins Alex Phillips on Talk to discuss the dire state of Britain’s prison system.
With fears that prison spaces for men could run out as soon as November, the Justice Secretary announced three new prisons will be built starting this year, as part of a “record prison expansion”, but admitted “we cannot build our way out of this crisis”.
Bleksley thought the situation was a terrifying prospect.
They also discuss the case of Peter Sullivan, who to date has spent more of his life in prison than free, finally had his name cleared on Tuesday after decades protesting his innocence.
Crucial DNA evidence was finally unearthed due to scientific advances last year, showing that it was another unknown man who raped and murdered 21-year-old Diane Sindall in 1986.
