‘They hated me’: Donald Trump boasts new Canadian PM’s call to ‘make a deal’
Newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called up US President Donald Trump to “make a deal”.
During a cabinet meeting, President Trump claimed the Canadian PM will be visiting America within the next week to discuss a tariff deal.
President Trump had threatened to impose multiple sets of tariffs on Canada if a deal could be reached to tighten border control.
The US president said of the newly elected Canadian Prime Minister that they are going to have a “great relationship”.
“He called me up yesterday, said let’s make a deal, he was running for office,” Trump said.
President Trump said both Liberal Party leader Mark Carney and Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre “hated Trump”
“It was the one that hated Trump, I think, the least, that won – I actually think the Conservative hated me much more than the so-called Liberal, he’s a pretty Liberal guy,” Trump said.
“I spoke to him yesterday, he couldn’t have been nicer … it was a very mixed signal because it’s almost even, which makes it complicated for the country.
“He’s a very nice gentleman and he’s going to come to the White House very shortly, within the next week or less.”
