According to Associated Press the first of the agreements had Qatar buying airplanes from Boeing, the American aerospace company whose chief executive attended the event. The other deals focused on defense and the purchase of military drones. In short remarks following the signing, Trump lavished compliments on Al Thani during the signing ceremony, calling him an "outstanding man." "I just want to thank you for the friendship, for the long-time friendship," Trump said to <br />Al Thank. "We just liked each other. That's not a bad thing. That's a good thing," he added. Trump said the Qatari leader reminds me of the Saudi crown prince, who he had just visited. They were both "tall, handsome guys that happen to be very smart." The U.S. president was greeted at the airport by Al Thani after Air Force One was escorted by Qatari F-15 jets as it neared the capital city of Doha. Qatar is home to Al-Udeid Air Base, a sprawling facility that hosts the forward headquarters of the U.S. military’s Central Command. The oil-and-gas rich country is also in the center of a controversy over its offer to provide Trump with the gift of a luxury Boeing 747-8 that the U.S. could use as Air Force One while new versions of the plane are under construction by Boeing. The Qatari government has said a final decision hasn’t been made.
