Trump, Zelenskyy among world leaders to attend Pope Francis funeral
U.S. President Donald Trump was among the world leaders to attend the funeral of Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Square on Saturday.
Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Vatican, on the sidelines of the Pope’s funeral, to try to revive a faltering peace effort to bring an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Among the other leaders in the attendance at the funeral were former U.S. president Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and Argentinian President Javier Milei.
Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1936.
Francis, who shunned much of the pomp and privilege of the papacy, was buried at St. Mary Major Basilica rather than the crypt of St. Peter’s, the traditional resting place of the pope.
