Trump’s tariffs on Australia ‘not a big deal’
IPA Senior Fellow and Chief Economist Adam Creighton discussed US President Donald Trump issuing a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs last week.
The president is actively considering tariff deals with countries willing to negotiate, including Australia.
“There’s still a lot of confusion … as to whether these tariffs are going to be permanent tariffs that are meant to raise revenue for the US treasury or they’re meant to be a bargaining tool,” Mr Creighton told Sky News Digital Presenter Gabriella Power.
“Really, for Australia, we don’t actually export that much to the US – it’s not really a big deal.”
