A two minute silence has been held to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Victory in Europe, VE Day, saw Germany surrender and celebrations erupt across the UK and the continent. Six years of war was over.
Six years of families torn apart and an incomprehensible loss of life.
ITV News looked at how the UK is marking the anniversary as a day of remembrance and celebration as Royals, MPs and crowds gathered to mark 80 years since the allied powers officially accepted Germany’s surrender.
