UK Immigration ‘surge’ has put ‘huge pressure’ on liveability
MacroBusiness Chief Economist Leith Van Onselen discusses calls from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to strengthen British borders and bring the immigration rate down.
“He [Keir Starmer] has basically said the UK’s population has been far too high post pandemic … the UK, much like Australia and Canada, experienced an absolute ginormous immigration surge,” Mr Van Onselen told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio.
“That put huge pressure on housing, infrastructure, liveability, and he simply wants the numbers down.”
