During the assaults in Toretsk, the Russian occupiers tried to use underground communications, but were unsuccessful.
Viktor Tregubov, a representative of the operational-strategic group of forces “Khortytsia”, spoke about this on the air of the telethon. He explained that these communications are well known to the Ukrainian military, since they used them during the liberation in 2014-2015: “The Russians tried to use them, including during assaults, but not very successfully, because these communications are known. They also tried to use the hydraulic structures in Chasovoy Yar during an assault attempt. But the same story – it’s good when the enemy doesn’t know about it.”
Toretsk, which lies roughly 20 kilometers southwest of Russian-occupied Bakhmut, has seen fierce fighting in recent months, and Ukraine launched a counterattack in late February and early March. The city is largely occupied by Russian troops.
Tregubov said that Russian troops are having difficulty moving through the streets of Toretsk, so they have resorted to underground communications to attempt to advance in the city.
“Since this is also a priority sector, the Russians are trying to use every chance to bypass Ukrainian troops,” the spokesperson said.
According to him, the most intensive directions now are Pokrovse, Toretsk, Novopavlovsk and Limansk. In the area of Chasiv Yar, which is in the Kramatorsk direction, assaults are taking place in the direction of Stupochki. In addition, the Russians are trying to advance in the Kupyansk direction and move equipment across the Oskol River. At the same time, according to the speaker, the calmest situation in the Khortitsa area of responsibility is precisely in the Kharkov direction.
As reported, street battles with Russian occupation forces continue in Toretsk. According to the military, the capture of the city will allow the invaders to launch an offensive on Konstantinovka.
In a similar instance, Russian troops allegedly used a gas pipeline to gain a foothold on the outskirts of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk Oblast earlier this month to conceal their movement. Ukraine’s military also said that Russian forces have resumed their attacks in the Pokrovsk sector, which had experienced a relative lull in Russian activity until then.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia is planning renewed offensives in various parts of the front line, including in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.
