Unemployment Stats | Young people continue to face challenges in labour market
The number of unemployed people in South Africa has gone up. Stats SA data shows the official unemployment rate increased by 1 percentage point to 32.9% in the first quarter of 2025. The largest job losses were reported in the private household, trade and mining sectors.
