Donald Trump’s decision to go over the head of the Israelis and negotiate with Hamas direct has resulted in the release of an Israeli-American soldier held hostage.
Hamas has called it a “goodwill gesture” towards the American president.
Trump is hoping the release can pave the way towards a ceasefire in Gaza whose entire population, according to the UN, is in imminent danger of famine.
