Why the US-Ukraine minerals deal is so important for the war and President Trump | ITV News
The United States and Ukraine signed an economic deal on Wednesday that would give Washington access to Kyiv’s critical minerals and natural resources, according to the US Treasury Department.
The two sides offered limited details about the structure of the deal, which they called the United States-Ukraine Reinvestment Fund.
But it is expected to give the US access to Ukraine’s valuable rare earth minerals while providing Kyiv a measure of assurance about continued American support in its grinding war with Russia.
The US and Ukraine have been trying to hammer out a deal over natural resources since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January.
ITV News spoke to foreign affairs expert Professor Stefan Wolff, about what the deal means for Ukraine, Russia and the US.
