Without unity behind Sussan Ley Liberals face extended time in opposition, says former Nationals MP
Former Howard government minister Peter McGauran has warned that Sussan Ley’s leadership of the Liberal Party will only succeed if she achieves unity within the party, as a looming senate vote threatens her majority.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, Mr McGauran who has previously worked with Ms Ley praised her as “very competent” and “not to be underestimated”.
“Right person to lead the party, definitely, at the moment, but she must have unity,” McGauran said.
“If they don’t back her, then they can look at an even further period in opposition.”
