A woman has been shot dead during an attempt to drive a car at police officers when they were responding to a man armed with a machete in South Melbourne. Victoria Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Therese Fitzgerald defended the police response in the incident on Cecil Street, saying the officer who fired at the woman acted in compliance with his training.
