Last month Northern Territory health authorities issued an alert, highlighting a spike in HIV diagnoses and while nationally, the rate of infection among men is declining dramatically, it’s not for women. They’re also often learning of their infection much later than men.
Support groups are calling for better funding, more timely medical intervention and a focus on women in particular, even though last year they were dropped as a priority group in the National HIV strategy instead being grouped with all people living with HIV. Tilda Colling reports for Stateline NT.
