Workers' Day | Just a mark on a calendar for Hout Bay fishing communities
Fishing communities from Hout Bay in the Cape Peninsula say Workers’ Day is just a mark on a calendar, as they continue to battle to make a decent living.
Generations of people living on Hangberg, among others, have gone to sea to put food on the table.
But every year, a myriad of issues make it more difficult to do so.
Hout Bay stakeholders met with the ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment as part of a two week long engagement at harbours.
This in a bid to revitalise the economy at these spaces.
